COMMISSIONS

  • 2008 ‘Transplant’, Ness Botanical Gardens, near Chester

  • Commissioned by Cheshire County Council and Liverpool University for the ‘Something Beautiful’ project, part of the Liverpool City of Culture 2008 festivities and Cheshire Year of the Garden 2008. Inspired by an old shed at Ness Botanical Gardens, near Chester, the sculpture ‘Transplant’ was created. The magical quality of the gardens created a concept that should not try and compete with the plants but rather form something that was hardly visible. This involved working with a skeleton structure and transparent materials, all sourced from matter destined for landfill.

Silhouettes of garden scenes and significant words were printed onto the surfaces of the perspex tools and pots to invite an informal inquiry by visitors.

‘Transplant’ can be seen at Ness Botanical Gardens during 2008.

  • 2007 Book Buddy – Paddle Primary School, Cockermouth, Cumbria
  • Giant sculpture celebrating the joy of reading books for the new school reception area. Pupils selected their favourite books and then collaged a page depicting characters. Favourite phrases and sentences form textual tentacles meandering out beyond the sculpture onto the walls of the building. Pupils are able to sit within the pages of the sculpture and have a quiet corner to read. A coffee table was also created for the new library from stacks of old, unwanted books.
